In 1998 the Kunsthalle in Düsseldorf was the focal point of cultural-political discussion. It was in dire need of renovation and its future use was for a long time
the subject of heated debate. There was talk of closing it down, pulling it down or selling it. It was against this background that artists and curators together organized the exhibition GLUT
as a plea for the preservation of the Kunsthalle. The exhibition comprised murals, installations, videos, performances and concerts. In the two years that followed, this joint action sparked a
fruitful dialogue between politicians, curators and artists and eventually led to the renovation and preservation of the Kunsthalle.
